Keeping The Glory

Today’s message comes to us from Psalm 106. The Psalm is a long one, recounting the struggles and backsliding of Israel. I’m not going to post the whole psalm, but I do want to focus on one verse.

Psalm 106: “They exchanged the glory of God for the image of an ox that eats grass.” (ESV) This verse leads us right to the story of Nebuchadnezzar. He went from being one of the most powerful rulers on Earth, to wandering aimlessly through fields and eating grass, like an animal. That very thing can happen to us when we stray from God’s side. We come out from under that glory, and are then ruled by instinct; basically, animal instinct. Instead of the Holy Spirit controlling us, our flesh controls us. It’s not just losing it for a few minutes. It’s not just giving in to the craving for the cookies on occasion. It’s so much more than giving in to temptations. We slip out from under God’s glory when we cultivate and insist on maintaining an attitude that it’s alright to let sin rule over us. “It’s just sex. So what if they’re not married. So, what; everybody cheats on their spouse.” That type of attitude shift pulls us farther and farther away from God’s side, and closer and closer to that dangerous edge of the cliff. “If you are the son of God, throw yourself down; for the scripture says “He’ll give His angels charge of you, lest you dash your foot against a stone.” -(Matt. 4:5-6)

Jesus replied to the devil that we are not to tempt the LORD our God. That’s a powerful statement regarding sin. Don’t ever take your salvation for granted. You might not lose your salvation, but I guarantee you God will call you to account. God will never bully you; He is a gentleman. But, He will let you have your way…until your way sends you running back His way. And, it will. He’ll be right there waiting with open arms; but God is not mocked. We reap what we sow. (Gal. 6:7)

The thing some people don’t realize is that you’re really, really playing with fire, when you let the devil get a foothold in your life. that’s why vigilance, diligence, and perseverance are so important. Turning immediately and getting back on the right course is what God wants from us. If we do wrong, correcting it, making it right, is expected of us. God is faithful and just to forgive us when we confess our sins to Him. (1 John 1:9) It is when we don’t do those things immediately, that we find ourselves headed for trouble.

Yes, Over ALL The Earth!

Today’s message comes to us from Psalm 47. It is a praise offering to the LORD, by the sons of Korah. The psalm is a short one, so I’ll post the whole thing here.

Clap your hands, all peoples! Shout to God with loud songs of joy! For the LORD, the Most High, is to be feared, a great king over all the earth. He subdued peoples under us, and nations under our feet.
He chose our heritage for us, the pride of Jacob whom he loves. Selah God has gone up with a shout,
the LORD with the sound of a trumpet. Sing praises to God, sing praises! Sing praises to our King, sing praises! For God is the King of all the earth; sing praises with a psalm! God reigns over the nations;
God sits on his holy throne. The princes of the peoples gather as the people of the God of Abraham.
For the shields of the earth belong to God; he is highly exalted!

Does that stir you up? It fills me with a deep and awesome joy; and I can’t help but praise Him! Verse 1 tells us God is a great king over all the earth. That means there is nothing outside of His control; nothing. Verse 4 confirms that God chose us! Not only that, but He chose us to be His children! Is that awesome?! Hallelujah! In verse 8 we are assured that He reigns over all the nations, and that He is definitely on the throne! In verse nine our royal status is confirmed. But, when Jesus died and rose again, He raised that status. We are kings and queens in the earth. We are, in Christ Jesus, seated at the right hand of the Father. That’s both awesome and more than a bit scary, isn’t it? It lets us know though, that we have a responsibility to the earth and its inhabitants. Remember Jesus’ words? He came to serve; not to be served. There’s a reference in this verse to the shields of the earth. When I researched it, I found that Jupiter, the magnetosphere, and the atmosphere are called shields of the earth. Here, actually on Earth, “a large area of exposed Precambrian crystalline igneous and high-grade metamorphic rocks that form tectonically stable areas. These rocks are older than 570 million years and sometimes date back 2 to 3.5 billion years.” These are also called shields. They have to do with the earth’s crust, and plates that shift or don’t shift. Can you imagine God’s workload? These things are changed every time there’s a fire, flood, earthquake, or tornado and hurricane. (volume and weight) He has to adjust for all the depletion of the forests, the strip-mining, etc. WOWWWWW!!!!! Just think, if the weight of the earth was thrown all to one side? We could be careening through outerspace at breakneck speed and on a collision course with another planet. We might even be shot straight into the sun. No God? I beg to differ with you! This made me think of Psalm 104-a must read! That one will leave you awestruck and breathless.

Out Of The Mouth Of Babes…

“You have ordained praise.” (Psalm 22:3, Psalm 8:2, Matt. 21:16) Psalm 22:3 reads: “Yet you are holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel.” Psalm 22 begins with, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me, why are you so far from saving me, from the words of my groaning?”

When I think about my own life, I have to take the comma out of there. “Why are you so far from saving me from the words of my groaning?” There; that’s the truth. That all makes me think of Jesus’ words: “Truly I tell you, anyone who does not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” (Luke 18:17) The groaning only feeds the devil. The praises hurt his ears! Every time; praise God every time! And, yes, there have been times when I had to ask God to help me stop groaning and just grow me up!

Psalm 22 is actually a picture of Jesus hanging on the cross at Calvary. It’s also a picture of us in this world. Don’t expect friendship from the world. Jesus told us that the world will hate us because it hates him. However, God has us from the moment of conception, in our mother’s womb. Verses 22-31, again, is that recounting of God’s love, His power, His peace, His purpose, and His plan for us. I had a friend who had a bumper sticker that read: “Question reality.” Children don’t really question us, do they? They trust that we’ve got their best interests at heart; and they’re almost always so eager to learn from us. -until they’re 13 and know everything, and we now know nothing…LOL We need to do the same when it comes to the LORD/Lord. We need to trust Him. When you’re being assaulted by evil, losing your strength, and feel as if you’re unable to answer back, it becomes painful to walk uprightly, or to stand firm. Believe me, it’s designed that way by the forces of evil. They want you to lose your conviction, your courage, compassion, commitment, your course, and your control -because they want to destroy your divine character. Hold on to those truths in verses 22-31. This is how Jesus got from Gethsemane to Calvary, and on to the tomb and His resurrection. He stayed focused on God’s Word and God’s Will. He held fast to every truth He knew about God. He’s the one who said the truth will make you free. It freed Him from all that the forces of evil were trying to do to stop Him from destroying that curse, and saving mankind from eternal damnation. We deal with tiny ordeals compared to Jesus. But we have the same promises. We have to do it the same way He did. You can bet on the fact that evil will assault you like nobody’s business as soon as you get to doing something for God. We can win against evil by learning to recognize their tactics, and by standing firmly on God’s Word, His Will for us, and His Love for us. This is so important in a world that’s getting darker and darker.

Quicker To Turn To Him

Today’s message from God Calling – A.J. Russell, assures us that God does not intend for trials and difficulties to arrest our progress. Rather, God uses them to increase our speed.

When I first read this message, I was a little confused; to be honest. Reason being, is that God does not do things in a hurry! He has perfect timing. He also knows how discombobulated I get when I’m rushed. I discovered, through trial and error -(keeping it real), that the increase in speed is meant for our turning to Him in those times of difficulties. God is talking about the little difficulties in daily living, in this message. We’re admonished that we must never let any difficulty conquer us. Rather, we must conquer it.

We’re bid to call on new forces and use new powers in those times. What are those forces? Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ the Lord, and the Holy Spirit. They’re all we need. Our Heavenly Father is sovereign and in control of it all. Jesus gave us His Name, and made known to us everything the Father has given Him. The Holy Spirit is our counselor, sent especially to teach, lead, guide, convict, and comfort us. What more could a girl ask for, eh? What more could a man ask for, for that matter.

There’s always a new power to be discovered within. In the message, we’re told to call them into action; and speedily. You might not think of these as powers, but they really are powerful weapons and/or tools in the spirit. There is the power of prayer, praise &worship, sacrifice – you know, when you give up that Prime Rib dinner so the kids can enjoy Pizza out, during their sleepover party. There’s the power of laughter; which keeps your little sis alive after she spits a wad of bubblegum into your hair-in the middle of the Tokyo airport, in front of about a half troop of soldiers who will be on the same plane as your flying on. LOL

(Luke 21:28) “When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.” When we lift our heads, we can see a little higher up, and a little farther out. (Philippians 4:8) “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things.” When we speedily turn to the Lord, and do things His way, calling those powers into action, we can see the pure, lovely, admirable, praiseworthy…and the most excellent way to handle things. (1 Cor 12:31) “Now eagerly desire the greater gifts. And yet I will show you the most excellent way.” -And that would be love.

He Can Clear The Blockages

I said that to say this…

Today’s message from God Calling – A.J. Russell, reminds us that self kills power.  When we operate in the wrong spirit, we block the Holy Spirit.  Operating in the wrong spirit includes things like anger, fear, frustration, greed –this includes those attention grabbers, etc.  This is all the flesh trying to be in control.

I anagrammed the word “SELFISH” once.  It comes to this: FLESH IS – SELFISH, or SELFISH – IS FLESH.  I recall many holidays spent sort of like Sadie’s Granny…family gatherings are the perfect setup for the flesh to get in the way of the spirit.  In terms of generational curses, they’re also the perfect excuse for the addict, the alcoholic, the people pleaser, the person who just can’t be pleased, the fixer, and the martyr; just to name a few.  The stage is set as soon as the invitations go out, and the “play” begins as soon as the first guest walks through the door. 

When we let God work in us, and through us, we can begin to see how all the players are connected.  We can begin to see the connections we, as individuals have to the alcohol, the drugs, the fear, the frustration, etc.  God’s love empowers us to overcome the fear of seeing the truth(s) within.  When we can do that, we overcome the fear of seeing the truths in our little world(s).  The connections can be clearly seen.

I used to drink to excess out of anger, frustration, and pain.  Of course, I never saw the connections between my excessive use of alcohol and the consequences of losing control.  I saw those things as separate events-before I was able to look at the truth.  When we become able to see the truth(s) and make the connections between our emotions, our behaviors, and the consequences, changes can begin to happen.  We become empowered to recognize triggers (emotions), make better choices (behaviors), and have better consequences (peace, progress, power).  Don’t forget the joy, joy, joy!  That’s what life should be; joyous, even in the midst of the storms.

When we can come to the point where the Holy Spirit can flow through us, we can truly become powerful forces to help others rise up out of those pits of generational curses.  I’ve been able, for some time now, to laugh at the spirit of those old “drunken sweet potato” holidays.  But before I was able to make the connections, there were a lot of tears, and some horrendous encounters with my flesh. 

Happy Birthday, Katrina!  I hope your day was blessed with all things beautiful.  I know it’s coming a day late for you, but I’m going to try to get back on track with this stuff.

Seek It Within Yourself

Today’s message from God Calling – A.J. Russell, bids us to trust in the goodness of God. When we become children of God, we have that goodness put into our hearts. We are created in His image, and after His likeness; so we now can begin to grow into that image and likeness. (Genesis 1:26) “Be perfect therefore, as your Heavenly Father is perfect,” said Jesus. (Matt. 5:48)

“I will feast the soul of the priests with abundance, and my people shall be satisfied with my goodness, declares the LORD.” (Jeremiah 31:14) This is what God longs for us to have every day of our lives; souls that are feasted on the Word of God, and wholly satisfied by and with His goodness. The way we obtain that is to seek the goodness of God within us. As we discover them, we lose things like that sense of condemnation (by self or others). We lose things like fear; especially, of things like rejection, failure, loss of control and freedom, and even loss of time. We also begin to actually lose lack (within and in our lives); and begin to experience more and more fullness of spirit, life, peace, joy, all the awesome things God has for us.

“Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” (Luke 12:32) The first thing to do when things go wrong, is to look for that kingdom within; for that goodness of God in you. Perhaps you need patience, or courage, or comfort, or just an idea. It’s there within you. Getting quiet and just waiting for the Lord, for a minute, brings the peace we need to see those treasures; the goodness, and good things of God. Saturday Silly – August 15, 2020

A friend and I were discussing recent news headlines.  This included the Corona virus relief plan negotiations and Nancy Pelosi.   The lady definitely does play hardball, doesn’t she?  My friend-not a fan of Ms. Pelosi’s either, said, “Somebody needs to put that woman into a suitcase, and send her into outer space on the next rocket they launch.”

Being a Christian, I really don’t get too excited about politics.  I try to stay aware of what’s going on, but I trust the Lord.  God’s got it under control.  I believe that with all my heart.  Anyway, what came to mind was this image of all these little demons and devils and such, on all the planets out there, packing their belongings up and heading for the Black Hole in outer space… can’t you just hear them…-“OMG! They’re sending her out here!  Oh, HELL NO!!”   I laughed out loud; because the next thing I thought of was Hebrews 12:26, where God says, “Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.”

Saturday Sentimental Silly-July 25, 2020

Today’s message from God Calling – A.J. Russell, reminds us that God is the boss-the controller of every second of every minute of every day.  We are asked if we can see how wonderful life really is with Him.

It got me thinking back to our military days.  We don’t always like what’s happening.  I hated having to move away from friends; and it seemed as if that’s exactly what we were always doing…moving, moving, moving.  I was the oldest kid in the family, and, naturally, not very impressed with some of the stuff my younger siblings pulled.  My mother was always good for embarrassing this teenager too.  But, just when you think you’re at the end of your rope, God throws the curve ball…and everybody’s roaring with laughter.  This very thing happened on one particular journey.  Six women in the family; and all had to use the restroom.  At this particular place, there was ONE restroom for ladies.  Also, we were on a time constraint; my dad did not like to get off schedule traveling.  So, there was I, on the potty, while my sister was washing her hands-both of us crammed into this little stall.  My mother was supposed to be holding the door ajar slightly, so the next girl could duck in quickly when ready.  Something happened, and she got distracted and let go of the door, which opened wider all by itself.  Just at that instant this gorgeous guy happens by.  He’s looks in at me, and says, “Hi.”  I’m smiling at him, thinking how cute he is…”Hi,” I said back to him.  That’s when I remember I’m on the potty with my pants down around my ankles.  Needless to say, I didn’t need any blusher when touched up my makeup.

It gets better, we had dinner there.  After dinner, we all piled into the car, and Dad had to go into the restroom.  He came out of the restroom, and headed straight for this station wagon that looked exactly like ours – but wasn’t.  We were all roaring as he started to tell the poor lady in that car she needed to get out; just before he realized she was the only one in it, and he was at the wrong car.

The Child Within

Today’s message from God Calling – A.J. Russell, reminds us that we must become as little children to enter the kingdom of Heaven.  “And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”

As I said before, I’ve been studying about generational curses and how to overcome them.  Humankind has lived under a generational curse since Adam and Eve disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden.  In studying this out, I discovered just how much God really is in control.  You see, in putting enmity between Eve’s seed (man) and Satan’s seed (unclean spirits and demons), God insured that we would  be able to see the truth behind the lie.  We can see the devil and the lie for exactly what they are; evil, and meant to destroy us.

Generational curses happen as a result of disobedience to God, or removal or displacement of a standard and/or boundary.  “Thou shall…and Thou shall not…”  When this happens, we end up with sin that rules over us.  We have addictions, abuse, co-dependency, and dysfunction.  We are not getting the truth that empowers us to live successfully.  Thankfully, God has made it possible for us to become His children, and to re-raise, or be resurrected by Him.  This is what it means to bring up a child under the admonition of the LORD/Lord.  That child is the child within; your spirit.  You see, it isn’t your flesh that suffers the damage of faulty and flawed parenting -not usually, anyway.  It is your spirit.  I read a passage just today:  The LORD reigns; He is robed in majesty.  The LORD is robed; He has put on strength as His belt.” (ESV)  When I read this, I thought of that voice saying, “Go get me that belt!”  That stuff was meant to break the bad spirit(s) off of us.  But, most of the time, it breaks our spirit, doesn’t it?  Remember Jesus said that the Father has given Him everything; and He, Jesus, has given it to us, in turn.  That means you can read that passage of scripture this way: “I reign, I am robed in majesty.  I have put on strength as my belt.”  The admonition of the Lord strengthens us in our spirit, so that we can reign as kings and queens in life.  The first step is to be born again.

You can do that by asking Jesus to come into your heart and be  Lord of your life.  If you don’t know the LORD/Lord, now’s the time – today’s the day of salvation.  And Jesus will save you everyday; from all the old stuff that would hold you back or trip you up.

Pray this prayer:  Lord Jesus, please come into my life and be my Lord and Savior.  Please forgive me for my sins; I renounce them all right now.  I want to become a child of God, and learn to walk according to His Word and in His Way.  Please make me yours from this moment on.

I encourage you to find a believer to pray with you, and I’ll be praying for you.  Today can be the best day of your life; the turning point to a better life -everyday.

Fear Not! Rather, Take My Heart!

Today’s message from God Calling – A.J. Russell, reminds us that fear is a real temptation; an unclean spirit, actually.  We are bid to attack it with the sword of the spirit, which is the Word of God.

As I’m studying about generational curses, this particular thing comes to the forefront time and time again.  As children, we fear the reproach of our parents, the rejection of our friends and peers, we fear things we don’t understand.  Then, depending on the parenting we had, the environment(s) we grew up in (addiction, co-dependency, abuse, etc.), that spirit of fear drives us.  We fear failure, fear emotional attachment, fear loss of control, and so many other things.  Sometimes, fear can actually cripple us.  There are people who actually cannot leave their homes and go outside, because they are so overwhelmed by fear.

As we learn to change the words we’ve heard and the ways we’ve handled things, and replace them with God’s Words and His ways, we can overcome those fears.  When we’re dealing with our children, doing this changes the entire scenario for that child.  Now, instead of creating a fearful and hesitant person, we are empowering a person with self-esteem and a sense of personal power over his/her world.
