The Ultimate Healer

Today’s message from God Calling – A.J. Russell, reminds us that God never causes us more pain than is necessary. As I read the message, I am reminded of Jesus’ sermon on the mount… Matthew 5:3, to be exact. “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” Poor in spirit, here, is humble, I believe. Like a child, we must be trusting.

Matt. 5:4 also comes to mind. It deals with being comforted. “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” Have you ever seen a child who is not happy? Let me tell you, that child will be comforted, or else! Am I right? Yeah, and I’ll tell the truth-I RUN to Jesus when I’m not happy! I RUN when it’s not working right! I RUN when I don’t want to run! Your pain will cause you to seek the cure!

We are reminded that it is directly, or immediately when we pray or call out to Him, Jesus is on it. Actually, it was already worked out in the beginning. That’s a powerful boost to one’s faith, when you can grasp it. However, in this world, in the physical, it is worked out in flesh and blood, isn’t it? That’s the hard part. Getting your mind, heart, and will to line up with God’s promise, and His power. This is where Matt. 5:6 comes in – “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” Yes, Jesus will tell you the truth every time-whether you like it or not-because you need to know the truth, so you know the way that promotes life, protects life, and empowers life. And when we humble ourselves before the Lord, and let Him teach us, (Matt. 5:5) it’s always alright…and all right -within and round about us-as much as is in our little world, anyway. That empowers us to effect the rest of the world positively. See, Jesus is the ultimate healer!

Acceptance Changes Them

Today’s message from God Calling – A.J. Russell, bids us to accept the trials that come our way. We are reminded that we cannot be destroyed; that God’s grace is sufficient for us. God’s grace is sufficient for all our needs, in every circumstance. That one’s easy to forget, isn’t it? Something that has helped me in the past, and continues to be a great help to me, is acceptance .

As I thought about acceptance in regard to this message, I saw it in a different light. It isn’t merely acceptance of the trials that matters. It is, first and foremost, acceptance of our new heritage in Christ Jesus, complete with all the authority, peace, power, etc. that comes with that heritage, that makes the difference. (2Co. 5:17) -“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” That acceptance changes the way we see those trials. It changes their size, first of all. Seeing them in light of who you are in Christ, is like looking through the other end of the binoculars. Remember the Israelites seeing themselves as grasshoppers in comparison to the Philistines? (Numbers 13:33)

Jesus showed us how to turn the binoculars around, so we see the truth. The truth is that nothing can separate us from the love of God, He is our beginning and our end, and in Him there is no end for us. (Romans 8:39) (Psalm 91) (John 11:26) Finally, there’s the last part of that scripture about God’s grace being sufficient for us…”for my power is made perfect (or perfected) in weakness. That weakness spoken of there is the laying down of our will, our attitude(s), thoughts and words, and our ways. Instead, we are to adhere to God’s will, His attitudes, thoughts and words, and His ways. (Jeremiah 29:11) (2 Co. 10:5) (Matt. 5:48) That changes the trial to an opportunity to win; just like Jesus does-every time…and, when He wins, we all do. Lord, help me to get this one down for good, please. Thank you.

Set If Before Your Face

Today’s message from God Calling – A.J. Russell, reminds us that it is the truth in God’s Word, received into our hearts and firmly stood on, that brings us out and up to victory. Jesus’ parable of the sower and the seed comes to mind. (Matt. 13:3-9)

This principle needs to be applied to every situation we’re dealing with. Dig into the Word of God, both new and old testaments, and write down those that apply to what you’re feeling. Put them on the bathroom mirror, tuck them into your bag, keep them in your desk drawer at work. God told the Israelites this in regard to the Law in Deuteronomy 6:8-9. Read them aloud until you feel your feet back on solid ground in your faith, instead of feeling like you’re being buffeted by the wind and waves under you. I assure you, this is the way to overcome that difficulty. It not only stirs you up and strengthens your spirit; it also puts the forces of evil on notice and reminds them who the real authority is!

The Way, The Truth, And The Life

eden08122015

Today’s message from God Calling – A.J. Russell, is entitled: “My Richest Gift.”  The message speaks to us about abundant life; and bids us to take it, and to use it.  That abundant life spoken of here is the life flow of Jesus Christ, our Lord.

John 4:13-14 is referenced: “…but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”  In my Bible study, this morning,  I was reminded of Jesus’ words in John 14:6- Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life.”

Applying this scripture to overcoming generational curses, addictions, and any other adversity, really works.  You see, Jesus also said, “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:32)  Putting this all together, we have this revelation.  The truth will lead you to the way to empower life…in any situation, in everyday living.  Example:  (Truth) The oven is hot when it’s on (Way) We do not touch it (Life) We don’t get burned and hurt.  This teaches, or empowers, the child to steer clear of the oven; especially when it is in use.  That’s a simple one.  If you use those three gifts (truth, way, life) your life becomes more powerful and joyful.  That spills over into other’s lives as well.  *The reason truth comes first, is because Jesus is the true bread from Heaven; and truth has to do with God’s Word- (Romans 3:4)

It All Goes Together

eden08122015

Today’s message from God Calling – A.J. Russell, bids us to dwell in God’s Presence.  We’re told to dig deep into the soil of the Kingdom.  This message ties in with the one for Saturday, August 8th, and with my post on Friday’s message.  All three go together.

Friday’s message speaks of getting to know God intimately to dispel fear and doubt within.  Saturday’s message – read it at twolisteners.org- bids us to empty ourselves to ensure constant fresh supply.  This is so important when we’re finding ourselves stressed, anxious, angry, anything that’s contrary to the Divine Nature within us.  Immediately emptying ourselves of all that negative emotion and replacing it with truth from the Word of God, and what we know of God’s love and grace toward us, is critical.  This is the way we remain in His Presence.

Do you know what Satan’s goal in the Garden of Eden was?  It was to separate Adam and Eve from the presence of God-and from the security there is in His presence.  That’s why we’re told to dig deep into the soil of the Kingdom…you’ll find treasure upon treasure, strength upon strength, glory upon glory, until your faith is unshakable!  You will think, feel, and act like the king or queen you are ordained to be.  *Remember what the King of kings said, though: “I have not come to be served, but to serve.”  And remember Solomon’s prayer for wisdom, so that he could rule over his people wisely and justly.

Look Not To The Left Or The Right

eden08122015

Today’s message from God Calling – A.J. Russell, bids us to walk by faith in Jesus’ keeping power.

God’s power will never fail us; but we fail to keep our minds fixed on Him.  Again, Peter walking on the water comes to mind: “But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” (Matt.14:30 -NIV)  Looking neither to the left nor right, but keeping our minds and hearts fixed securely on our Lord and our Heavenly Father, is the way to get through every day with so much less stress!  What a burden is lifted off one’s shoulders when we get this right.

The next thing that comes to mind is putting on the whole armor of God.  (Eph. 6:13)  I think the helmet of salvation and the breastplate of righteousness are the most important.  You see, this is where our head and heart is at.  The shield of faith and the sword of the Spirit-which is the Word of God, do us no good whatsoever, if we do not believe and receive that Word; that truth.  This is where building our spiritual strength comes in.  We have to feed our spirit with the truth; which is, that we are children of God, the head and not the tail, nothing can separate us from the love of God, and nothing can stop God’s purpose for you!  If you have to write this down somewhere and read it aloud every morning, do it until it’s the first thought you think when you wake up.  It works.  Keep it with you and remind yourself that whenever you’re feeling anxious or stressed.  Before you know it, you’ll be sailing through most of your days joyfully.  Read about God’s love in the Psalms and the Prophets, about His keeping power, and about His fierceness in dealing with our adversaries.  (powers, principalities, hosts of spiritual wickedness) (Eph. 6:12)

Forgiving Is The Easy Part

eden08122015

Today’s message from God Calling – A.J. Russell, reminds us that we need to forgive and forget, if we want to move on.  I’ve said it before; forgiveness is for us, the “wounded.”  It is for our benefit, so much more than for the benefit of the one(s) who hurt us.

Forgiving is the easy part.  Forgetting is what’s hard.  It’s also the obstacle that gets in the way.  This is especially true when we’re dealing with generational curses.  It’s often not even the old wounds that cause the problem, but the old ways of dealing with them, that keep us on that vicious merry-go-round-and round, and round.  They call that PTSD in the secular world.  A similar situation, or one that triggers those same feelings of fear, helplessness, etc., can cause us to lose so much ground.  One minute can undo six months or more of progress, if we’re not alert to the dangers.

Here’s where God comes in, though.  Isaiah 40:10 tells us – “Behold, the Lord GOD comes with might, and His arm establishes His rule.”  God will take all those old things, show you the truth in, and about them, and then destroy their power over you completely.  I’ve been there.  We develop ways of coping, adapting, surviving.  Unfortunately, they’re not always the right ways.  God’s way is.  He not only will destroy those old strongholds, but He will teach you the right ways to think.  Our attitudes toward the sin in our lives-whether the sin is ours or belongs to others-are what affect our living.  God will give you some great attitudes!

The Child Within

eden08122015

Today’s message from God Calling – A.J. Russell, reminds us that we must become as little children to enter the kingdom of Heaven.  “And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”

As I said before, I’ve been studying about generational curses and how to overcome them.  Humankind has lived under a generational curse since Adam and Eve disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden.  In studying this out, I discovered just how much God really is in control.  You see, in putting enmity between Eve’s seed (man) and Satan’s seed (unclean spirits and demons), God insured that we would  be able to see the truth behind the lie.  We can see the devil and the lie for exactly what they are; evil, and meant to destroy us.

Generational curses happen as a result of disobedience to God, or removal or displacement of a standard and/or boundary.  “Thou shall…and Thou shall not…”  When this happens, we end up with sin that rules over us.  We have addictions, abuse, co-dependency, and dysfunction.  We are not getting the truth that empowers us to live successfully.  Thankfully, God has made it possible for us to become His children, and to re-raise, or be resurrected by Him.  This is what it means to bring up a child under the admonition of the LORD/Lord.  That child is the child within; your spirit.  You see, it isn’t your flesh that suffers the damage of faulty and flawed parenting -not usually, anyway.  It is your spirit.  I read a passage just today:  The LORD reigns; He is robed in majesty.  The LORD is robed; He has put on strength as His belt.” (ESV)  When I read this, I thought of that voice saying, “Go get me that belt!”  That stuff was meant to break the bad spirit(s) off of us.  But, most of the time, it breaks our spirit, doesn’t it?  Remember Jesus said that the Father has given Him everything; and He, Jesus, has given it to us, in turn.  That means you can read that passage of scripture this way: “I reign, I am robed in majesty.  I have put on strength as my belt.”  The admonition of the Lord strengthens us in our spirit, so that we can reign as kings and queens in life.  The first step is to be born again.

You can do that by asking Jesus to come into your heart and be  Lord of your life.  If you don’t know the LORD/Lord, now’s the time – today’s the day of salvation.  And Jesus will save you everyday; from all the old stuff that would hold you back or trip you up.

Pray this prayer:  Lord Jesus, please come into my life and be my Lord and Savior.  Please forgive me for my sins; I renounce them all right now.  I want to become a child of God, and learn to walk according to His Word and in His Way.  Please make me yours from this moment on.

I encourage you to find a believer to pray with you, and I’ll be praying for you.  Today can be the best day of your life; the turning point to a better life -everyday.

Rejoicing In Your Weaknesses

eden08122015

Today’s message from God Calling – A.J. Russell, reminds us that God’s strength is made perfect in our weakness.  (2Cor. 12:9)

There was a time when I believed that was some mystical event that happened; that by some miracle, God would infuse me with supernatural strength.  Over the years, I’ve learned just how much of a naturally occurring result of my accepting, or acknowledging that weakness-(truth), seeking the way to overcome it-(way), and rising up to walk in that way (life).  Are you getting a picture of how simple it really is?  Jesus said, “I am the truth, the life, and the way.”  He is that in every situation.

Acceptance is the key to the whole thing.  We all too often try to deny the weakness, or to fake our way through it.  Notice the two words, “our way.”  That’s what it is that gets us into trouble.  If it’s your weakness, it’s obviously not the way to go, is it?  Accepting the weakness empowers you to seek the way(s) to overcome it.  This opens the door for God to work, and opens your mind and heart to receive insight, inspiration, and instruction.  What went wrong, why, what’s your part in it, what can you do to fix it, or improve it, etc.  These insights inspire ideas and creative energies.  Then, the instruction(s) bring us up to the next level; to overcoming power, and to progress.

God is a creator, we are created in His image, after His likeness.  Therefore, we are creators, and creative beings.  We can resurrect, rebuild, restore, etc.  That’s the power of God being perfected in us, in our weaknesses.  This is why we are told to rejoice in our weakness; to see it as an incentive and an opportunity to rise to an even higher level.  We aren’t to walk in denial, deception, depression, and all the other stuff that comes on you when you’re trying to fake your way through.  Just be you; be the best you you can be.  Accept yourself just as you are, and work from there.  You can only work with what you’ve got; and, as they say, “God don’t make no junk!”  Celebrate every step forward, every step upward, every step taken.  God does; because He loves you!

Serving All Isn’t As Hard As May Seem

eden08122015

Today’s message from God Calling – A.J. Russell, reminds us that we are here to serve…just as Jesus came to serve us, and not to be served.

The message bids us to be a servant of all.  The first time I read that, I scratched my head a couple of dozen times, and was still confused after I thought about it.  Oh, my God, how can I possibly serve everyone?  I don’t even know what some people need or want?  What?!   One day, I was reading about the woman at the well.  I read the part where Jesus told her that God seeks those who worship Him to worship in spirit and in truth.  That’s when it hit me.  I am to have an attitude of humility, friendship, helpfulness, and kindness toward others in my world.  I am to reject any notions that anybody owes me anything, that I am entitled to any honors, or preferential treatment, etc.  The best King is the one who will fight right alongside his soldiers.  Jesus never asks us to do anything He, Himself wouldn’t do.  When He does ask us to do something, He equips us for the task.

That last statement gets me every time I want to put my hands in my ears and act like I don’t hear God.  It makes me laugh at myself when I want to just fall to the ground and say, “I can’t,” or “I don’t want to.”  “Do it anyway,” God says.  When I change that attitude, and get the right one going, life is good.  Things get done, friends are found, or new ones made, and I’m not disappointed.  If you don’t expect anything, you won’t be disappointed.

Some might say that’s a negative viewpoint.  It isn’t.  It’s pure truth.  We are not entitled to anything more than anyone else is, nobody owes us anything in the way of lauds and praises, or preferential treatment.  We are all one in Christ Jesus.  That’s why we’re told to honor one another above ourselves.  When we do this, both you and the other person are honored.  God has said that whomever humbles himself will be exalted, but whomever exalts himself will be humbled.
