I was on the bus recently, and passed a little place that reminded me of my drinking days. It also reminded me of an old friend. She had a real funny sense of humor…and it never failed; she always got me with it! Always!

One night, she and I were out and about, in a little town not far from Billings. We were looking for a place to have a drink and maybe shoot some pool. As we pulled up to a local bar there, my friend read the sign in their big front window, and said to me, “Crafty Beer Liquor? Wow! Wouldn’t it be cheaper if they just used bar mops? I mean, they’re a dollar a dozen. They have to pay that guy or girl $7.50 an hour to lick that beer up!”

…My version of that Tyrol hat…Oktoberfest has been in full swing for a couple of weeks now.  Here’s something you may not know.  Oktoberfest was originally a wedding celebration.  It was the day that Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria (he later became King Ludwig the First), and Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen were married-October 12, 1810.  The celebration lasted several days, actually; and then became Oktoberfest, as the people loved it so much.  Now, it’s celebrated all around the world.  So, do you know what happened to the three little ghosties who stayed too long at Oktoberfest?  They were three sheets to the wind.  Ha!  I couldn’t resist!

I thought I would share one of my favorite German folk dances with you, as a way of kicking of Oktoberfest…and sharing a little bit of my heritage with you.  This dance is called the Schuhplatter.   I’m not sure if this was competition, or just exhibition, but these gentlemen are awesome!  Then, I wanted to share with you, this other German folk dance, done by couples.  After you watch it, you’ll know where the term, “dizzy blond” originated.  I hope you enjoy them as much as I did.

He Cannot Fail You

eden08122015

Today’s message from God Calling – A.J. Russell, reminds us that God has promised to provide all we need, every time we need, no matter what we need. (No, I’m not talking about that cold beer, the weed, speed, and what have you.  He will provide a way for you to free yourself from the bondage of those things, because He loves you, though.

The Bible tells us that all God’s promises are yes and amen.  The message tells us that Jesus, as our Lord, is sworn to protect and provide for us.  It took me some time to learn this lesson.  When we ask, it is promised that we will receive.  However, God uses many channels, God knows what we need most (Father knows best, you know).  God also has perfect timing.  When I figured that out I realized that I was, either not ready to handle what I was asking for, being averted from a disappointment or disaster, or I was looking in the wrong places for it.  Have you ever looked all over the house for your glasses, only to find them on your nose?  Yeah, that would be me, if I had to wear them all the time.

The message tells us that we need only a grateful spirit and loving heart to unlock the vastness of God’s provision.  I’m not just speaking of material needs.  I’m also, and especially speaking of spiritual needs.  I think those are even more critical to us, to our success in life.  If you’re spirit is lacking in any way, that lack manifests itself in every part of your life.  I’m not talking about religious things, here.  I’m talking about your confidence, your knowledge, your peace within, your tenacity, your joy and love-of you, of your life, and of life in general.

Sometimes I make a little list of things I’m grateful for.  I used to do that daily.  Now, I do it when I’m needing a little lift, or when it’s something special that touches me.  But, I do start my day with Thank you, Jesus.  I have found that the prayers for this or for that, have become fewer, and the supply-especially in spirit, has become greater and greater.  “And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you,
if you obey the voice of the LORD your God.  ” (Deuteronomy 28:22)

His Hand is Ever Over Our Lives

eden08122015

Today’s message from God Calling – A.J. Russell, reminds us that God’s hand is ever working in, and over, our lives.  The message ties in perfectly with Saturday’s message about straying.

In Saturday’s message, we’re bid to learn the overcoming power of Jesus.  He wasn’t daunted by anything or anyone.  He knew who and whose He was, what His standards and boundaries were, and what His destiny was.  He also knew His purpose(s).  We all serve many different purposes in life.  They come according to needs-of others, and ourselves.

The way this message ties in with that one, is that it reminds us that there is a seal on our lives.  We are sealed to God Almighty, through Jesus Christ, our Lord.  We are reminded that He leads us-out of darkness to light, out of despair to hope and victory, out of temptation to overcoming power.  It is when we remember that seal is on us and our lives, that those standards and boundaries become clear and strong.  That’s how I can drink one bottle of beer or one glass of wine and be done.  I know who and whose I am, what my standard is, what my boundaries are, what my strengths and weaknesses are.  I know who is right there with me when I am drinking that bottle of beer or glass of wine.

There is so very much strength in being mindful of that seal on our lives.  If you walk out your front door with it in mind, you can walk away from anything!  It isn’t that Jesus needs to be called to our sides.  It is that we need to remain mindful that He is there.  And, He’s not there to judge you or condemn you.  He’s there to help you, to encourage you.  He’s there to give you the strength to get up and walk away.  It works in reverse too.  He can give you the strength to go somewhere you need to go, or do something you need to do.  Remember, His strength is made perfect in our weakness.  When we stay mindful of Him and His seal on our lives, His strength can, and will be perfected in us, to overcome the weakness.

Boy, what a week this has been!  My cardiology appointment went well, and, thank you, Jesus.  After my appointment I decided to take the afternoon off and go do a bit of sight seeing.  There’s a lot of construction going on all over Las Vegas.

Someone is opening a new wedding chapel downtown.  They’re re-purposing an old building.  I happened to notice a Porta Potty just outside the back door of the wedding chapel.  Now, I’ve been married twice…I thought to myself, “I wonder if that’s for those couples where you just know the whole relationship’s going to be down the toilet before the reception’s even over.  You know, the in laws haven’t met each other until the wedding day…and the fight’s on the minute Rudy tells “Skippy’s” wife to go “fetch” each of them a beer from the bar fridge…before the bride arrives in the limo…and sure enough, somebody invited cousin Leroy, the playboy…He goes to weddings to meet women…yep, I’m pretty sure that’s what that Porta Potty’s for…but hey, it’s really a good idea…when you think about those people with lactose intolerance and such…Hmm, I think I’m telling my children to elope…I’m kidding, kids, you know I carry a gun…LOL..oh, alright, I ‘ll be good then…
