Yep, Even Greater Works!

I’m happy this post is coming at the end of the work-week. I think it’s the perfect time for this shot in the arm! May it fill you with peace, joy, and a new excitement about all the wonder God’s put into you!

(John 5:19-20) So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise. For the Father loves the Son and shows him all that he himself is doing. And greater works than these will he show him, so that you may marvel.”

The scripture above says it all for us.  This is why we are to teach our children, to foster their interests, to encourage their efforts, etc. In them, we can also see the reason for being born again.  When we’re born again, we become God’s spiritual children.  We have a new father.  This father will teach us correctly.  This father will admonish us correctly.  This father will encourage us, dote on us, back us up, defend us-and to the death.  He sent his Son to die for us, so that we might live.  (Deut. 4:9) (Proverbs 3:1) (Proverbs 1:8) (Proverbs 16:9)

No, not everyone’s parents were absent, abusive, and/or dysfunctional.  Some folks had wonderful parents…and still got off track…and still ended up in recovery from drug addiction or alcoholism…and still committed suicide.  There are no guarantees in life.  A parent can’t be with you every second; and certainly not after you’re eighteen and/or considered to be an adult yourself.  We don’t listen when we should, we think we know how to do it so it’ll work, we believe in taking a more “modern” approach to things, etc.  We end up falling flat on our faces sometimes, and the crashes leave their damage behind within us.  Thank God, we have a Heavenly Father who’s always ready, willing, and so much more than able to take us in His arms and get us back on track, healed and whole again.

I love verse 20, telling us that greater works than these will He show us so everybody can marvel.  God is a revelation giver. (Romans 8:19) (John 6:45) (Eph. 1:17) (Psalm 25:8-9)  When I read this verse, I think about Jesus telling of the man who found a precious treasure in a field. He sold all that he had and bought the field.  Of course, you know that man was out there digging up that field and looking for more treasure, don’t you?  I remember when I learned to crochet my first granny square. Then I learned to read patterns and follow them.  Now I’m designing crocheted squares, and making my own patterns.  “Greater works will He show him…”  That’s so exciting to me!  We have the mind of Christ, and the possibilities are endless!

Don’t Fear Him; Fear Him

Today’s message comes to us from Psalm 111. It’s in praise of the LORD, His love, and His works. When I read it, I recall being just filled to overflowing with a sense of wonder at some of the things I’ve found in God’s Word, or at some of the things He’s allowed me to experience or be part of. I never would have gotten that much out of my relationship with Him, did I not respect (fear) Him and trust Him; because I never would have been looking for Him. I want to focus on verses 7, 8, and 10.

The works of his hands are faithful and just; all his precepts are trustworthy; they are established forever and ever, to be performed with faithfulness and uprightness. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have a good understanding. His praise endures forever!

When I read these verses, that making the bed thing comes to mind. The , “do it even if and whenever you don’t want to,” thing comes to mind too. That’s what that performing it with faithfulness and uprightness means. And the victory over the chaos, confusion, struggle, etc., is why we do it faithfully and uprightly. It is when we lay aside the fear (terror) of the LORD and fear Him, that we can begin to really have relationship with Him. That’s when we begin to grow in spiritual knowledge and power.

When I think of these verses in terms of generational curses, I can see how important it is that the works of our hands (deeds) and our precepts (rules/standards/boundaries) be faithful, just, and trustworthy. This is what makes us respectable, and makes our kids able to trust and respect us.

Love Like That

Today’s message comes to us from Psalm 98, and is a party in itself! Oh, what a wonderful example of joyous praise; and of a deep, deep love for the LORD/Lord! I’m reading from the ESV.

Oh sing to the LORD a new song, for he has done marvelous things! His right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him. The LORD has made known his salvation; he has revealed his righteousness in the sight of the nations. He has remembered his steadfast love and faithfulness to the house of Israel. All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God. Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth; break forth into joyous song and sing praises! Sing praises to the LORD with the lyre, with the lyre and the sound of melody! With trumpets and the sound of the horn make a joyful noise before the King, the LORD! Let the sea roar, and all that fills it; the world and those who dwell in it! Let the rivers clap their hands; let the hills sing for joy together before the LORD, for he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world with righteousness, and the peoples with equity.

Sometimes it’s hard to understand just how deeply God does love us. We have a hard time allowing ourselves to be as intimate with Him as we are with our spouse, our children, all our loved ones. But, that’s exactly what God wants from us; that intimacy, that boldness when we approach Him, that confidence when we need Him, that trust. Of course, that intimacy isn’t possible unless and until we allow God into that deepest part of our hearts.

One thing I love about this psalm is that it beckons even to the rivers to clap their hands, the hills to sing for joy. The sea is bid to roar and make a joyful noise to the King, the LORD. It makes me think about waking up in the mountains, just before sunrise. You can hear everything waking up, and it all comes together in a symphony of praise to God. The water begins to gurgle and run a little faster, the wind begins to whisper through the branches of the trees, and sometimes you even hear a bird whistle out there. It’s one of the most beautiful experiences I’ve ever had. Each time we get a glimpse of God’s working in the world around us, we can see a little more of His deep, deep love for His creation. Even the colors of the sunrise and sunset are rich with His love for us; His desire to share His own beauty with us.

Saturday Silly – May 22, 2021

Happy Birthday, Bubba! Your mama sure does love ya! You make life worth living for me! I hope your day is fabulously awesome, filled with everything wonderful, tons of love and laughter, and beautiful memories! Love you so much! Mommy!

My goodness, I cannot believe I’m surviving this horrible attack ordeal! Thankfully, the E.R. team was awesome, once the clowning was done. I don’t know how they deal with some of the people that come iin there.

I was a little confused about the eye drops thing. The nurse told me to put them in every two hours when I’m awake…but she didn’t say how often I should put them in when I’m asleep.

I’m also taking a new medication for a week. When I read the side effects, I got a little fearful. “Notify your physician if you lose consciousness,” it says. “OMG!” I thought. Are they serious?! Do you know that I won’t be able to call my physician when I’m unconscious?! I took the first dose just the other night, but I don’t know if I lost consciousness or just fell asleep, cuz, it was at night, at bedtime.

I hate being a patient, I just hate it! Now I don’t know if my head hurts because of the injury, or because of all this thinking I’m having to do!

Getting Over Yourself

Today’s message comes to us from Psalm 74. It’s the next step after the pity party’s over. Verses 1-11 is where I’ve found myself before. You’re wondering, “How long is this going to take, God? Are you going to do something, or are you just going to stand there and watch them destroy me?” One time God asked me, “How long did it take you to decide to turn to me?” I did like Job, and said, “I’ll just shut up now.”

Verse 12 is a reminder that God has been at this a lot longer than you have. “Yet God is my King from ancient times, working salvation on the earth.” Since the beginning, God has had you. He saw this day, and all those days before this one…you know, your downhill slide. Verses 13-18 recount God’s power and the works of His hands. I love verse 19. “Do not deliver the soul of Your dove to beasts; do not forget the lives of Your afflicted forever.” “But, Daddy; I’m your little girl!” LOL I can laugh now; and I hope God did then. That manipulation thing doesn’t work very well with Him. But, oh, don’t we love to try it?!

Verses 20&21 is where we start. “Consider Your covenant, for haunts of violence fill the dark places of the land. Do not let the oppressed retreat in shame; may the poor and needy praise Your name.” Consider your covenant with God! It’s the one Jesus blood was used to seal. Your salvation was not the only thing Jesus secured for you. Jesus secured and assured your redemption as well. Redemption is not only about redeeming you from the power of Satan over your eternal soul. Redemption is about giving you back your power over your life here on Earth; right now! God will help you redeem your clarity, your sanity, your peace, power, joy, and love-love for Him, for yourself, and for others-even those who have hurt you. The greatest commandments, according to Jesus are 1. Love God with all your might, your heart, and soul, and 2. Love your neighbor as you love yourself. Self-loathing, self-doubt, self sabotage, and self defeat are part of that vicious circle we can find ourselves caught up in. This is especially true when we’re dealing with generational curses. The biggest reason addicts and alcoholics relapse is that they never get to deal with the cause(s) of their addiction(s). Those can be found in the daily lives of the generation(s) before you, and in your own. When you begin to see and understand them, you can begin to overcome them.

Saturday Silly – May 1, 2021

Most of you know I crochet. I love to take my little odds and ends of leftover yarn, and make doll clothes or other fun little things for children. I recently gifted a friend with a couple of little purses, and some Barbie clothes and accessories I’d made. I was told that the two year old loved the purse; and Grandpa put a dollar in it for her. She ran to Mommy and asked if they could go to the store, and stated that she was going to buy something for Mommy, because Mommy always buys her things. Mommy was so touched by this, that she gave the little lady another dollar, and told her to save it and the one Grandpa gave her. Mommy insisted that she was going to buy the little princess something as a reward for her thoughtfulness and generosity. I, having had four two year olds myself, when I heard this, couldn’t help wondering, “Do they know that they’ve just been robbed by a two year old?” LOL! Great job with those girls, Mommy! Hugs and kisses to you all.

Take A Deep Breath Tuesday

Today’s message comes to us from Psalm 52. It’s a rebuke to evil and evil doers, and a reassurance to us, that God does see and hear, and He is on the throne! I hope you’ll read the psalm for yourselves. This song comes to mind as I’m struggling my way through some things. I hope it blesses you as much as it does me. Thank you, again, Tasha Cobbs and friends, for a wonderful, wonderful inspiraton!

Advice For The Royals

Today’s message comes to us from Proverbs 29; and since you are a king or queen in the earth, it’s for you.

Proverbs 29: 2 tells us “when the righteous flourish, people rejoice, but when the wicked rule people groan.” Proverbs 29:14 “If a king faithfully judges the poor, his throne will be established forever.” That tells me that there is joy in the admonition, encouragement, instruction, and discipline of the Lord. It also tells me that my children will benefit much more if I raise them under the admonition of the Lord. Just as people groan under wicked rulers (parents, boss, supervisor, mate, leader), all of creation is apt to suffer because of wicked rulers. The reason for that is found in Proverbs 29:7-“A righteous man knows the rights of the poor; a wicked man does not understand such knowledge.” This why we have things like pollution, affecting air, water, earth, and the ozone layer that protects us from the sun. Proverbs 29:4 tells us that a king builds up his land by justice, but one who exacts gifts, or *taxes heavily, tears it down. Justice is not only the aim in a court of law; it includes weighing all things out correctly, looking at a thing from all sides, in order to achieve what’s best for all. Exacting a gift is forcing someone to give something to you. This is the cause of most rebellion; even in our children. Force, or duress, is not conducive of peace, which is necessary for learning. Proverbs 29:15 tells us that the rod and reproof give wisdom. The rod, in this case, is used to measure growth, progress, correctness of action. Reproof is instruction meant to correct thinking and action. Isn’t it much easier to learn something when you are made aware of your error(s) and helped to understand the correct way? Proverbs 29: 19 addresses that. “By mere words a servant is not disciplined, for though he understands, he will not respond.” But, by instruction, and with help, correction can come about. The spilt milk example fits well here. We help the child to clean up the mess, and then figure out how to avoid spilling the milk again. Punishment needs to fit the crime. {You broke the window, and must pay to replace it.} Proverbs 29:12 is an admonition to be careful who you surround yourself with; and to check facts. “If a ruler listens to falsehood, all his officials will be wicked.” Proverbs 29:22 shows us the value of peace. “A man of wrath stirs up strife, and one given to anger causes much transgression. Ever wonder why your children seem to go from being in trouble to being in more trouble, to being in even more trouble? There’s a difference between loving discipline and harsh punishment. Proverbs 29:23 tells us that “One’s pride will bring him low, but he who is lowly in spirit will obtain honor.” I think of (Matt. 20:28) when I read this one. Jesus came to serve; not to be served. He gave His life to ransom all who believe and receive Him. Proverbs 29:25-26 “The fear of man lays a snare, but whoever trusts in the LORD is safe. Many seek the face of a ruler, but it is from the LORD that a man gets justice.” This is a warning against falling into “people pleasing,” or even expecting people to be pleased with you, actually. Trust in the LORD because He teaches us justice. (Right understanding, correctly weighing things out).

Saturday Silly-February 20, 2021

Well, look what the wind blew back in! LOL! Sorry about the latest lapse; someone up to their devilish and childish havoc wreaking again.

Speaking of the wind…and childish, and havoc…I ride the bus daily. I’ve heard a lot of complaints from a variety of people, about the rudeness and unprofessional attitudes, and incompetence of some of the drivers, and the security guards. I, myself, have complained to supervisors, as well. Yesterday, I was on the bus, and the security guard got off at the bus stop to talk to the the two men sitting there. Neither one of them got on the bus; they were just sitting on the bench. This security guard seemed to be giving them the third degree, and a hard time, about it. I thought, “I wonder if it has occurred to him that someone may have hired those two men to hold that bench down. I mean, it has been pretty windy lately.” So good to be back at it.

PS -Thank you to all the drivers and guards who do their jobs professionally, and courteously. You are appreciated!

Every Day With Him Is Wondrous

Today’s message from God Calling – A.J. Russell, bids us to seek to see the wonders of, and in, God’s Kingdom. When we do this, the scales begin to fall off our eyes, and we are able to see more and more of the wonders in, and of, His creation.

Here’s Mercy Me with an old favorite of mine. By the way, I dance with, and for Him every day! Oh, how I love you, Lord!
