God’s Salvation Grows In Us

Today’s message comes to us from Psalms and Proverbs 21. “O LORD, the king rejoices in Your strength. How greatly he exults in Your salvation! You have granted his heart’s desire and have not withheld the request of his lips. Selah For You welcomed him with rich blessings; You placed on his head a crown of pure gold. He asked You for life, and You granted it—length of days, forever and ever. Great is his glory in Your salvation; You bestow on him splendor and majesty. For You grant him blessings forever; You cheer him with joy in Your presence. For the king trusts in the LORD; through the loving devotion of the Most High, he will not be shaken.” Psalms 21:1-7(BSB) WOW!!!!! Can you wrap your heart and mind around that one?! We can exult in our salvation because God, from the moment we give our hearts over to him, welcomes us as His children. Just like the father welcomed his prodigal son in (Luke 15:11-32), God welcomes us with joy and celebration when we repent and accept Jesus’ gift of salvation. (Luke 15:7)

I like what I read in verse 8 of the Psalm. Because of God’s loving devotion to us, we will not be shaken! That’s a two-fold revelation about how we need to deal with our children; and how we need to treat ourselves. Love yourself better than that! (self bashing, defeatist attitudes, words like “can’t”, etc.) Setting your expectations too high is also not loving to your child, or to yourself. We have a tendency quite often, to want to complete the whole journey in one step. Then we get overwhelmed, confused, and defeated within. This makes me think of the song they sang, in Santa Claus is Coming to Town, about putting one foot in front of the other. Then, just watch what God can do with you!

Proverbs 21:1-8 are all about keeping our heart right before the LORD/Lord. Verse 4 warns us that haughty eyes and a proud heart are sin. they are the lamp of the wicked. Jesus warned us of the same thing in (Matthew 6:22-23) “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!” In this passage, I believe Jesus is talking about our understanding, and conviction; referring to them as our eyes. Verse 22 is an admonition to tear down the strongholds that keep us from living effective lives. This goes with (2 Cor. 10:5) “We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” Strongholds are false beliefs, attitudes, excuses, and denial. We have to root these out, and cast them out first and foremost. We have to do it every time they rear their heads. We can stay on top of this by giving thought to our ways, and by staying disciplined to stay on track, and get back on track, every day, every time. As we do this, God’s salvation grows in us.

The Gifts Of The Quiet Times

Today’s message from God Calling – A.J. Russell, reminds us that God does indeed redeem the time. Quoting directly from the message: “Your simple daily tasks done in My strength and Love will bring the consciousness of all your highest hopes.”

The message speaks of adding beautiful peace and joy to our golden years. But, when I thought about this, I thought of weariness that clings at times. I thought of disappointment and doubt in self, in my progress, even in the Lord, in those times I just could not understand that He was working all the while. There are many times it seems like not a prayer one is getting through, and not a thing one is being done about our complaints, our weariness, our frustration, etc. It’s in those times, that we need to seek that quiet time with Him, and get refreshed and strengthened.

I found a list of scriptures about being refreshed, renewed, and strengthened in spirit. I’m going to list them so you can look them up. Isaiah 40:31, my favorite: “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will surely help you; I will uphold you with My right hand of righteousness. Isaiah 41:10, Jeremiah 31:25, Psalm 29:11, Psalm 68:35, and Psalms 92:10. I’m sure there are so many more, but this is a pretty good start. These are the gifts of the quiet times. They empower us to just live our God’s will for us in His strength and love. When we do this, almost unconsciously we will rise, step by step, one step at a time, to new glories, and new triumphs.

Here’s Paul McClure with Waymaker. I hope you get stirred up in your spirit by this song-and remember, you’re not walking alone!

Step By Step, Stone By Stone

Happy Veteran’s Day, one and all. Thank you, Veterans, for your dedication to preserving and protecting our freedom. God bless you all! And, God bless America!

Today’s message from God Calling – A.J. Russell, reminds us that we are not ready to see the whole picture. We cannot, as we are now, bear the beauty…and I know that the tragedy of all that may be lost on that day is already pretty hard for me to bear. It brings me to tears as I’m posting this.

I hope you’ll read the message at twolisteners.org It’s both encouraging, and sobering. I’ve chosen this song by Don McLean . It’s titled, Crossroads, and it speaks to me so powerfully, in regard to this message. If you don’t know Jesus, I pray that you’ll let Him into your heart now-because that day in Heaven, beyond the veil, will be so wonderful. If you do know Him, be encouraged that He is with us every step of the way; and He’ll be jumping just as high as you and I will be when we finally get there.

Truly, There Is None Other

Today’s message from God Calling – A.J. Russell, reminds us that there is no other name by which one can be saved. And, Jesus saves us every day. As I read the message, I thought about all the times my dad said, “Jesus!” -when something wasn’t going right. And then, it would go right. I’m stifling a giggle as I write this. I know He knew there’s a God; but I never saw him go to church except for christenings, weddings, and funerals.

We’re encouraged to say His Name often; and to speak it just out of love for Him, as well. I found out some time ago that when I speak Jesus’ Name, thinking about how much He loves me, and how much I love Him, everything within does change. There’s a peace that comes over me, the storm dissipates, and truly, I find myself on a rock that’s higher than the waves are.

Chris Tomlin does this song. It’s a great way to celebrate the Lord’s day. I hope it blesses you as much as it does me.

Saturday Silly – September 5, 2020

Today’s message from God Calling – A.J. Russell, reminds us that progress is the law of the Kingdom of Heaven. We are bid to rise ever higher and to strive to be ever better. Be better today than yesterday -this mindset actually freed me from fear of other’s opinions, from the competitive spirit, and from being a “cookie cutter” copy of everybody else. Only compete with yourself; then you’ll always be better. Don’t measure yourself up against anyone; measure yourself up against yesterday’s you. And don’t be so hard on yourself.

I was discussing this with a friend of mine. I said to her, “The message made me think of Lot and his family. He was the guy living in Sodom and Gomorrah. Try as I might, I just can’t figure out what happened with those two girls. I mean, talk about going two steps forward and three steps back! God sends two angels to save them from the disaster, rains down fire and brimstone and totally demolishes, not one, but two towns, and what do these two do on the mountain? It never occurred to either one of them to ask God to send them husbands. They could have had a Johnny Depp or Brad Pitt! God can do that!!!” My friend said, “Yeah, and don’t forget about their mother. She was the pillar of the community; worth her weight in salt.” Hmm…I’m sorry, I had to laugh! She’s a Bible study leader. My friend, not Lot’s wife.

The Richest Girl In The World

…Is Daddy’s girl! Today’s message from God Calling – A.J. Russell, bids us to “lay up treasure in Heaven,” and to set our affections on those things. They are higher than anything we’ll ever find here. And, they are the ones that will endure forever.

My first treasure is my Jesus and my Heavenly Father! Then, there’s the privilege of communicating with them; the privilege of prayer. My children, grandchildren, family and friends are great treasures. I have some beautiful people in my life! There is the sun to warm me, the wind to cool me, the stars to count -because sheep can’t jump that high, the moon to dream over, the water to hydrate, wash, and entertain me. (I love to swim and fish) I know, I know-those are temporal things; but God sends them at exactly the right time, every time.

There are those few moments in the morning, as I’m saying my prayer…this warm hush comes over my spirit, and I can almost feel the Lord wrapping His arms around me. What a way to start the day! I could go on with this list, but it would never end. When I think about having to fight for every breath I took, and being able to breathe deeply now, I’m overcome with tears of gratitude. Healing and health are two great treasures. And, I’m not getting old; just older. See, already I’m winning that battle! LOL

I have the peace and joy of the Lord, within, and once everything gets down to a dull roar, round about me too. That’s the second most awesome thing to possess in this crazy world; the peace and joy of the Lord. Peace and joy in the Lord, all the time, is the most awesome! We walk by faith; and when you have that, you’ve got all you need.

Keeping The Summit In Mind

Today’s message from God Calling – A.J. Russell, bids us not to fret each step along the way up the mountain. Rather, we are bid to keep the summit in mind.

Something that really helped me with this was creating. I love crafting and creating, cooking, all that stuff. Sometimes the process can be frustrating, or a little daunting. We envision a beautiful creation, a wonderful meal, a magical blend of flavors, etc. Then, as we’re putting things together, we can get lost, and lose sight of the end product. While you do have to go step by step through the process, envisioning your finished product and keeping that in mind, helps keep you from getting lost in the process. This builds spiritual endurance too. Sometimes those mountains are pretty tall, aren’t they?

Habakkuk 3:19 is referenced by the message: “GOD, the Lord, is my strength; he makes my feet like the deer’s; he makes me tread on my high places.” Your high places include your gifts, talents, knack for things, etc. See, He truly is God everywhere!

Naturally, A Little Laughter…

Today’s message from God Calling – A.J. Russell, reminds us that nature is filled with healing power for us.

I don’t think I’ve posted this story before; although I’ve told it at least a hundred times. When I lived “out in the country,” I had a beautiful little Border Collie. Emma was her name. She actually was the kids’ dog, but she and I were kind of like Thelma and Louise. She was beyond spoiled.

One day, I had two five gallon jugs of water in my car when I came home. I opened the back door of the car, took the two jugs out, and headed for the house. I’d left the back door of the car open; I guess I just wasn’t thinking. Anyway, I set the two jugs down on the porch so I could unlock and open the front door.

I no sooner opened the door, and Emma rushed past me. She ran right to the car, and jumped into the back seat. I took the jugs into the house and headed back out to the car. Try as I may, I got nowhere with her. Emma refused to get out of the car. She was bound and determined to go for a ride. Finally, I shut the car door, and got in the driver’s seat. I started the car, backed out of the driveway, and pulled right back in. (I didn’t have the gas to drive around; I needed it to get to work) I shut off the motor, got out, and opened the back door for Emma…who promptly got out of the car, tail as high as she could hold it and wagging triumphantly, and -I swear-this hilarious self satisfied smile on her face. I almost doubled over laughing!

Releasing The Divinity Within You

eden08122015

Today’s message from God Calling – A.J. Russell, reminds us that to strive to improve attitude, calmness and serenity, courage, and love within, is to release the divinity within.

We are bid to seek out imperfections within, even the smallest ones, and to work at overcoming them.  It is when these things are righted, that we rise to the next level.  As we do this, miracles cannot help but happen, for they are naturally occurring according to the power released within us.  The saying, “if you want to change the world, change your mind,” is a very powerful revelation of the kind of power God has put within us.  The next step, then, is to reach out from that higher level.  Naturally, there will be,now, more power to create positive effects in the world around us.

I chose Michael Jackson’s “Man in the Mirror,” to go with today’s post.  I hope it blesses your day.

What Praise Unlocks

eden08122015

Today’s message from God Calling – A.J. Russell, reminds us that there is an order to all things; even approaching God.  The message bids us to seek first something we can be thankful for-even in distresses, and then praise God for it…then approach boldly with your cry for help.

I learned some time ago to just live in a state of thankfulness.  Even in the darkest moment, the most outrageous distress, the most dire circumstance, you still have at least one thing to be thankful for.  That one thing is God.  If that’s all you can see that you have to be thankful for, so be it.  Thank Him for being Who He Is.  The instant you do that, the floodgates open, and the blessing flows.  Worry, doubt, fear, anger, bitterness, resentment all dam up that flow.  Praise breaks up the “log jam.”  Praise unlocks the door of the storehouse where your treasures are kept.  The next thing you know, the darkness is dispelled, the fear is gone, the shame and distress are both disarmed, and you know where, exactly you’re going.  “First right with Me, then righted in the eyes of men, too.”

Psalm 26:6-7 is referenced by the message: “I wash my hands in innocence, and go about your altar, Lord, proclaiming aloud your praise and telling of all your wonderful deeds.”  There is a powerful revelation in this scripture.  Washing your hands in innocence suggests that you aren’t going to allow a spirit of shame or fear to stop you from going to God’s.  When we proclaim aloud God’s praise and tell of His wonderful deeds, we are putting the forces of darkness on notice that we’re standing on God’s promises and His Word – “It is written!”  We are also stirring our own spirits up by recounting our victories in Christ, and our state of blessedness through Him. “I am a child of God Most High; and an heir with Christ Jesus!”  Hallelujah!
