Today’s message from God Calling -A.J. Russell, reminds us that there is a hill of sacrifice for all. Some of us don’t know it, some of us don’t want to know it, and some know it all too well. I’ve been in all three of those categories, by the way. I’ll say a little more about that later.
The message speaks about trusting until the very end. Jesus did that on Calvary. We are told that this is the test that must come to every believer. Abraham trusted right to the very end, and God provided the sacrifice. As I read the message, I thought about Jesus, who was the sacrifice. Then, God provided the sacrifice too.
How does that relate to us? Yes, God has provided the sacrifice for us too. Jesus died for all of mankind, to atone for our sins once and for all time. That’s a done deal. But, did you know that you are the sacrifice whenever you have to walk up that hill to Calvary’s cross? Just like with Jesus, fear has to be cast away, the taunts, jibes, jeers, etc. have to be ignored, the pain of betrayal must not be allowed to hinder us. Pride, I think, is the hardest thing sometimes. I want to question God; “What are you thinking?!” “Do you know what I’ve been through and what I’ve given?!!” “Have you gone blind or deaf up there?!” “How dare you, after all I’ve given and done and gone through for you, God?!” And then a little pigeon will limp up to you, babying the leg on the very same side as the one you injured, and look you right in the eye…not making a sound…and you know in your heart of hearts, that’s Jesus reminding you of Calvary. Forgive me, Lord. Please.
I was, for a short time once, stuck in that “knowing it all too well,” place. EVERYTHING WAS A TRIAL OR TRIBULATION! OMG!! “No, dear,” said the Lord. “You’re stuck in victim mode. Poor, poor, pitiful me, dear.” Not everything is a trial or tribulation. Sometimes it is your attitude that needs to be sacrificed on that cross. I believe the reason Jesus wore that crown of thorns was to illustrate to us how stinking thinking and bad attitudes can hedge our mind power in. See, God still provides the sacrifice; if you’ll listen.
