Today’s message from God Calling – A.J. Russell, reminds us that the church, or body of Christ, is but the husk; a kernel. The real/true life is within. According to the message, you are that life within the kernel.
John 12:24 tells us – “Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.” -Jesus’ Words. What does that mean to you as a member of the Church, or the body of Christ? No, I am not saying leave your church, or do away with church. We are supposed to fellowship, study, and worship together, regularly. (Hebrews 10:25) It means you can’t expect to grow in your faith just by attending church. Remember Mary and Martha? (Luke 10:39-42)
When I read this message, I think of the woman with the issue of blood. ( Luke 8:40-44) I think of Peter stepping out on the water. None of the other disciples went with him. ( Matt. 14:26-31) I think of the woman who wept at Jesus’ feet; and the one who anointed His head with perfume. (Luke 7:36-48) (Mark 14:3-9) *These last two really give us good examples of some attitudes you can find within the Church. C’mon, I’m keeping it real, here. I’ve had some of those attitudes myself. That’s one reason we need to seek Jesus out as individuals. Peter was alone, but Jesus didn’t say, “Y’all come,” He said to Peter, “come.” Why? Peter was the only one who asked to. That lets us know two things. First, we can go boldly to our Lord. Secondly, we don’t need to be members of any group, church, sect, etc., to approach Jesus; He welcomes all who come to Him. (John 6:37)
Why is it important that you come alone; on your own? We are individually unique, each of us created wonderfully and fearfully, each one of us, honored and precious in God’s sight. There is no such thing as “a standard Baptist person, the usual Pentecostal believer, or even a uniform Jewish man or woman. We are all gifted in differing ways, with differing temperaments, strengths, weaknesses, etc. A potter doesn’t form and shape and refine a bunch of pots all as one lump. He works and perfects each and every, single one. Next time you’re in church, go alone into the Holy of Holies, before the Lord. Your flesh, with all its fears and flubs, cannot enter in there; only spirit can. (John 4:23-24) Go quickly! Go boldly! He loves you so much! It’s there, alone with Him, your spirit finds its life! Then, that life is so much more powerful, to so many more that He loves.
