Today’s message from God Calling – A.J. Russell, reminds us that we must persevere in doing God’s will, in following His laws/commands, and in seeking Him and walking with Him.
It’s so very easy to get discouraged and give up, especially in today’s world. We are also, all too often, pretty hard and pretty harsh with ourselves. And we get things confused at times. We might think God’s telling us one thing, and then find out it’s not what He meant at all. We’re bombarded with all kinds of things that can distract, distort, and detract from things, and divert us from the path we’re supposed to be on.
“Persevere in all I tell you to do. The persistent carrying out of My commands, My desires, will unfailingly bring you, as far as spiritual, mental, and temporal things are concerned, to that place where you would be”. -this is a direct quote from today’s message from God Calling. When I read this message, I think about Peter. In all his stumbling, falling, and even failing the Lord when it counted most, Peter still persevered in his walk with the Lord. I went through a time once, where the very last thing I wanted to do was have any kind of conversation or encounter with the Lord. I think I really just didn’t want to admit that I was in over my head in “my life,” at the time-and I knew that’s exactly what Jesus would have told me. When I finally couldn’t deal with it anymore, and I was at the end of myself and “my life,” I did seek Him. For the life of me, I couldn’t get any response from Him for about an hour. I could literally feel my prayers weren’t going anywhere; and neither was my praise, for that matter. I almost yelled at that point. “Why are you not speaking to me?!” In my spirit I heard, “When’s the last time you spoke to Me?” That experience changed my heart so quickly and so permanently!
Since that very encounter, I get right back up, dust myself off, and keep right on going after the Lord-no matter what’s going on, no matter what kind of opposition I’ve got, no matter how badly I mess it up, no matter what! I make it a point daily to review briefly, His one command and what He tells us about the two greatest commandments. They sum up the whole law, as He said. Then, I do my best to walk in them. And, when the Lord gives me a task, or prompts me to do something special for Him, I get right on it. I don’t care who laughs, or who thinks what of me. I know that God’s got me from the beginning to the end and all the way through that thing-so what someone else thinks, or has to say about me really doesn’t matter. And, as the message tells us, when we persist in obedience to Him, we will always win; we will reach our goal(s) and get to the next level of glory in Him.
