He Sheds Light on the Years Past

Today’s message from God Calling – A.J. Russell, bids us to let go of everything behind us and move forward, assured that Jesus will shed His light on the path ahead of us as we walk it out.  The message assures us that Jesus stands between the years as kind of a filter; like the trees filter the sunlight on hot days.

John 8:12 is referenced:  “When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”  As I read the message, and this scripture, I thought about wounds that would not heal, and then suddenly one day were healed.  There would be a revelation into the situation that caused the wound, or about the person who inflicted the wound.  That taught me to look harder and more closely at everything when I am wounded.  This works for things we’re trying to overcome, as well.  Jesus sheds light on some weakness, or some habit that you don’t even realize has you bound and is keeping you from progressing.  All of a sudden, you have strength you never knew you had.  Suddenly, you’re laughing at yourself as you say, “Run past the cookies, girl, RUN!”  And you realize you’ve got the victory.

One of the greatest ways to start out the new year is to retrace my steps over the last year, and recount the victories-no matter how small.  Each step forward is progress.  Each little bit of progress is a victory, both spiritually and in the physical realm.  The message bids us to keep in our hearts only those things that are positive and encouraging.  We are to build ourselves up with these.  That’s why we recount our victories and progress we’ve made, rather than the losses, seeming failures, and weaknesses.  When we do this, we begin to feel joy in living, and laughter naturally follows.  If you can’t laugh at life, it can kill you.
