Today’s message from God Calling -A.J. Russell, reminds us that we are the salt of the earth. “Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again?” (Luke 14:34) “I know! I know!”, said I. You, Lord, turn us into pretzels, don’t you? You roll and bend and shape, smush it all together and start over, stretching and pulling and rolling some more…yeah, till I’m sitting with my knees up and my arms curled around them, chin down and in total amazement that I’m even still alive here!” Jesus laughed and laughed and laughed at that one.
One way or another, that Son of man is going to make me want, desire with all my heart, even BEG for the salt. Lord, do you know that’s not good for my blood pressure?! What if I have a heart attack or a stroke? “I am the resurrection and the life,” said He. “Oh,” said I; “I’ll just shut up now.”
Not only are we the salt of the earth-if and when we’re getting it right, but we are also kept, preserved even, by our close contact with the Lord, Jesus. We are kept fresh, at our best, ready to rock and roll with the punches. We are kept safe from all the garbage going on around us. There’s one more promise that the message today gives us: that salt keeps the portion of the world we’re placed in from corruption and destruction. Did you notice the word, “close,” up there? The people we are closest too, of course, are those we have the most potential influence over. Ahem! They’re also the ones who will twist you, your mind, heart, and soul…LOL Yeah, I’m laughing now; but let me tell you, I know where arthritis comes from. I do, I do! As if God needed any help turning me into a pretzel, right? Kids, what were you thinking?! Yeah, and the rest of you know who you are, too! I’m laughing again.
Okay, here’s the greatest part. The message tells us that this preservation and influence is not by activity on our part, really. Rather, it is by just being who you are. It is by the quality of your life. Keep in mind that the world doesn’t judge by the same standards, and quite often we are laughed at, mocked, and scoffed at. But the world also doesn’t understand that this stuff down here is really just stuff. The real life is the life within you and the love, peace, passion, power, and joy it radiates outwardly. My body still aches from the last couple of weeks of twisting, Lord, but thank you, and I love you so much! I’m your pretzel!
Love you from Cafe du Mondieu
